This ruling influences more than 60,000 active lawsuits from individuals asserting that their exposure to Roundup played a role in their cancer and contending that the company should have provided warnings about the possible risks.

The decision originated from a case in which a jury in Missouri awarded a man $1.25 million in 2024 after he claimed that using Roundup led to his blood cancer, a verdict that was later reversed. The court concluded that the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the existing labeling standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) do not require a cancer warning, as the EPA identifies glyphosate as “unlikely” to be a human carcinogen.

US Solicitor General John Sauer, who backed Monsanto in December 2025, highlighted that FIFRA and the EPA’s position limited Monsanto from unilaterally adding cancer warnings without federal consent. Brent Wisner, from Wisner Baum, representing around 1000 clients against Monsanto, noted that while Bayer has previously settled claims exceeding $10 billion, this ruling will influence many ongoing and upcoming cases.

Nevertheless, the Supreme Court’s decision specifically addresses claims regarding the absence of cancer warnings on labels. It does not directly impact cases focused on design defects or negligence. Attorney Brent Wisner suggested that the ruling might not influence claims unrelated to label warnings, such as those related to advertising.

Bayer, welcoming the ruling, indicated that significant litigation resources could have been better utilized for advancing agricultural and medical innovations. In early 2026, Bayer put forward a detailed class action settlement to tackle past and future claims connecting Roundup to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with initial approval granted for a long-term compensation initiative.

**US Supreme Court Affirms Bayer-Monsanto in Glyphosate Lawsuit, Affecting Thousands of Cases** In a notable legal triumph for Bayer-Monsanto, the US Supreme Court has affirmed the company’s position that federal pesticide legislation overrides state regulations mandating cancer warnings on the labels of its glyphosate-containing herbicide, Roundup.
