The route remains speculative as no human observed the entire crossing, yet the connection to Angel Island presented an intriguing narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Angel Island itself has a history of unforeseen coyote arrivals, believed to have commenced around 2017 when a lone coyote crossed from Tiburon. That single arrival quickly multiplied, establishing a new predator hierarchy on the island.<\/p>\n<p>This distinct population, descended from a formidable swimmer, is the centerpiece of an extensive study investigating how new predators shape isolated ecosystems\u2014a living laboratory led by State Parks, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and UC Davis.<\/p>\n<p>However, Alcatraz&#8217;s core identity as a crucial seabird habitat was not overlooked amidst the intrigue surrounding the coyote&#8217;s arrival. Hosting dense colonies of Brandt\u2019s cormorants and western gulls, the possibility of a coyote predator raised immediate conservation alarms. Relocation attempts were considered but proved unnecessary as the coyote disappeared without a trace, leaving no further evidence, camera captures, or audio recordings.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, park staff were left to ponder if the adventurous coyote ventured back to Angel Island.
