In November 1993, Barbra Streisand donated her 24-acre estate in Malibu, appraised at $15 million, to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. The estate, which includes five houses, was set to become the Streisand Center for Conservancy Studies. This unique gift, due to its existing residential buildings, was aimed at supporting environmental research and public access. Nonetheless, the property’s subsequent development took a different path, becoming known as Ramirez Canyon Park, functioning with limited administration rather than the proposed research institute. The transaction represented a notable donation to conservation, although the original plans encountered difficulties over time regarding its operation and upkeep.
